Privacy Policy
Last Updated: November 11, 2025
Our Privacy-First Approach
WordWell is designed with your privacy as a top priority. We believe your vocabulary learning journey should be private, secure, and entirely under your control.
Data Storage
All your personal data stays on your device.
- Saved words and vocabulary lists are stored in your browser using IndexedDB
- Learning progress and quiz history remain on your device
- Settings and preferences are saved locally
- Recently viewed words are stored in your browser only
- We never upload your personal vocabulary data to our servers
Third-Party Services
Dictionary API
When you search for a word, we query the Free Dictionary API (dictionaryapi.dev) to fetch definitions, pronunciations, and examples. Only the word you search for is sent to this service.
Analytics
We use Ahrefs Web Analytics to understand how visitors use our site (page views, navigation patterns). This helps us improve WordWell. Ahrefs analytics is privacy-focused and does not use cookies or track personal information across sites.
What We Do NOT Do
- We do NOT require user accounts or registration
- We do NOT collect email addresses or personal information
- We do NOT track you across other websites
- We do NOT sell your data to third parties
- We do NOT use invasive tracking cookies
- We do NOT store your vocabulary data on our servers
Data Export and Deletion
Since all your data is stored locally in your browser:
- Export: Use the Settings page to export your vocabulary lists as JSON or PDF
- Deletion: Clear your browser data or use the Settings page to delete specific vocabulary lists
- Full Reset: Clearing your browser's site data will remove all WordWell data from your device
When you do share exported files, keep sensitive information protected by screening drafts with ContentGuard and, if collaborating across languages, translate only the text you intend to send using TranslatePro so your personal notes stay private.
Children's Privacy
WordWell is safe for users of all ages. Since we don't collect personal information and all data stays on the user's device, there are no special privacy concerns for children using this service.
Changes to This Policy
We may update this privacy policy from time to time. Any changes will be posted on this page with an updated "Last Updated" date.
Contact
If you have questions about this privacy policy, you can reach us through the contact information provided on our Terms of Service page.
Bottom line: Your vocabulary data is yours and stays on your device. We can't access it, we don't want to access it, and we've built WordWell specifically to keep it that way.
